Shop Sawhorses

This was a quicker but not less fun “shop project”. I needed new sawhorses in my workshop and while I have an old set made of 2x4’s I wanted to make something sturdier and built for longevity.

Rescued from a ditch

I had some thicker red oak boards saved from a tree that fell in my neighbor’s yard years ago and some cut-off sections of sapele (a hardwood similar to mahogany) so I went to work.

The sections are taking shape

The oak boards were flattened and cut to rough length, then the sides were angled and glued together with the sapele strips.

Clamps - lots of clamps!

Glue-up was interesting, with the splayed legs and angled top beam but it worked out in the end.

A little taller than standard

An important side benefit of making my own sawhorses is that I can make them as tall as I need.
