The Donut Frame

Here is an interesting project; when I saw this great donut close-up picture I thought it needed a special picture frame.

I started with a hand drawn sketch to hell me visualize what the “glaze” could look like.

I made the frame out of sapele wood (medium brown in color, similar to mahogany) and then glued-up oversized maple blocks.

Next I drew and then carved the glaze design with hand and power tools. The outlines are finished with lots of hand sanding.

The frame was finished with multiple coats of satin hardwax oil, glass was fitted and the picture was installed.

The frame was exhibited in 2024 at the West Coast Art and Frame Show in Las Vegas.
